Summer Spectacular 2010: June 7th - August 25th
Summer Camp for Ages 2 to 10
Summer care is available at the Rib Mountain location for children ages 2 to 10! Click here to print a copy of our Summer Spectacular brochure (PDF). For additional information on pricing click here. Join us for a day, a week, a two-week session, or all summer! Our summer camp is a great way to get a taste of Montessori to see if it's right for your child.
Young Explorers |
Ages 2-3
Any child between the ages of 2 & 3 years is welcome in our Young Explorers group. We offer a half-day morning option or a full-day camp. The main goal for this age group is to make camp FUN! Children in this group will spend extra time outdoors during regular work sessions (scrubbing, painting, bubble play, sand structures, etc.). This is in addition to having the wonderful
experience of being part of a Montessori classroom & using the hands-on materials. Many of the activities at this level are designed to develop gross- & fine-motor skills while enhancing the child's order, concentration, coordination, & independence.
Young Adventurers | Ages 4-6
Children between the ages of 4 & 6 years are welcome in our Young Adventurers group. We hope to transform the Montessori classroom into a whole new “adventure” for them. With the classroom always at our beck & call, it is wonderful to step outside & see where we can fit Montessori into the world… but also, how does it fit into our classroom? Still wanting to enjoy the Young Explorers session, but ready for more, this will be the transition group spending time in their Outdoor Classroom, as well
as joining the Adventurers in some of their “Out-n-Abouts.”
Adventurers | Ages 6-10
Any child between the ages of 6 & 10 years is welcome in our Adventurers group. Ready to go out & take on the world, the Adventurers spend a great amount of time out & about in the community. Time in the classroom will be spent on expansive art activities, sewing, cooking, gardening, construction projects, etc. Our older friends take part in the planning & direction
of the activities they wish to do. Adventuring on our “Out-n-Abouts” & participating in our 2nd Annual Art Auction, Kid's Karnival, Woodchuck's Day Camp Day, & Castle Construction are just some of the highlights for this program.

Two-Week Sessions
Session 1: June 7-18
“Bugs, Slugs, & Backyard Adventures”
CREEPY!! SQUISHY!! SLIMEY!! What's that crawling over there? Check out these bugs! Exploring the backyard, Blue Gill Bay, & Liberty Park are just some of the places we will put under the microscope as we search high & low for our 6- (or is it 8?) legged friends. We will find out what it takes to be an insect. We will research them & their homes, find out what they like to eat (maybe us!), build a bug or two, & make our own insect habitat.
Session 2: June 21-July 2
“Outer Space Exploration”
What's that flying through the air? A bird… A plane… NO! It's an alien! Join us on our “Outer Space Adventure” as we discover what lies beyond the earth. Learn about the planets, create an alien, develop your alien's unique language, walk on the planet's atmosphere, & much more! We will take time to explore the planets in our Solar System and maybe a few beyond. We will also recreate the Red Planet's Surface. Do you know which planet is called the “Red Planet” and why? Get ready to explore! A fieldtrip to the Steven's Point Planetarium.
Session 3: July 5-16
“Healthy Bodies”
We really can Move! This is an awesome week of Healthy Eating & Action. Learn about our bodies; the Food Pyramid (via baking, cooking, & eating right); & exercising (via obstacle courses, relay races, biking, Rollerblading/scootering, hiking, & much more). It's never to soon to teach our children how to make & keep their bodies strong. Highlights for this session will be making their own Hot Lunch one day & setting up & holding a Bike-athon to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy (all done by the students!).
Session 4: July 19–30
“Pirates & Princesses”
Aye Matey! Climb on board the S.S. Rib Mountain! We will set sail for far-away places, with those scurvy pirates, spectacular castles, & mysterious princes & princesses. Which would you choose to portray on Dress-Up Day? We will build castles, design pirate ships, make sand castles & motes, & set sail at the Bay. Will there be a battle for the Fairest of the Fair? Join us & find out! Dress up as your favorite high-seas character for High Tea with the Princess herself!
Session 5: August 2–13
“At the Waters Edge”
What would summer be without the water… Why, very, very dry, of course! We’ll spend our time playing with water, making things out of water, & just having FUN in the water. Swimming, balloon tosses, relay races (we have some wet-andwild ones planned for this session), & backyard Splash Day. Is it a sandbox...or a lake? Not so sure with these kids—They are very creative!
Splash Day at AmericInn will be planned, as well as Fishin' and Froggin' at Blue Gill Bay. Break out the swimming suits… It's getting wet in here!
Session 6: August 16–25
“Math Explorers” &
“Getting Ready to Go Back”
(Note: 8-day session)
As we come to the end of our summer, we need to get ready to think like a GENUIS! What better way to become a Math Explorer than in real-life situations. We will discover various angles (Bowling Trip planned!) & attributes of the world around us, as well as design a “Kid's Karnival” & hold our 2nd Annual Summer Art Auction! Everything will be designed by the children, run by the children, & “budgeted?” by the children. Look out world… They may be our next Donald Trumps!
